WATERBURY HOSPITAL ADDS US NEWS QUALITY AWARDS
Waterbury Hospital was ranked a high performing hospital by U.S. News and World Report for quality treatment of patients suffering from Heart Failure and Diabetes in recently released 2024-25 Best Hospital Edition.
U.S. News evaluates 15 specialty areas of care. In 12 of the specialty areas, rankings are derived from data sources, such as Medicare and they include number of patients served, patient services and patient experience. The rankings started with about 5,000 hospitals, which represent virtually all U.S. community inpatient facilities.
Waterbury Hospital is distinguished for cardiac care winning accolades including being ranked among the top 10 in the nation to receive the Coronary Intervention Excellence Award™ by Healthgrades in 2022 and U.S. News and World Report Best Hospital for heart failure in 2023.
“We are delighted with the recognition Waterbury Hospital has received from US News and World Report. We are privileged to have a remarkably dedicated staff of physicians, nurses and technologists all supporting the delivery of cardiac care. We are fortunate to be the only hospital in the state recognized as an American College of Cardiology Chest Pain Center. We continue to lead the state in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction, have expanded our cardiac services to include trans catheter aortic valve replacement and left atrial occluder (both procedures vital in the treatment of expanding cardiac conditions) and we continue to provide extensive imaging and clinical services which maintain and improve the cardiac health of our patients. Our goal is to expand upon our successes in order to consistently deliver extensive, superior cardiac services to our patients,” noted Dr. Stephen Widman, interventional cardiologist and director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
The rankings are the latest in quality distinctions for Waterbury Hospital including the American Heart Association’s GoldPlus Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Quality Achievement Award, the highest level of achievement for this award. Earlier this year, five Waterbury HEALTH primary care locations received Medical Home Certifications for providing the highest level of care to patients. In 2023 The American College of Cardiology (ACC) recognized Waterbury Hospital with Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI making it the hospital in Connecticut to hold this accreditation.
Waterbury Hospital is ranked a three-star hospital by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.
“We provide exceptional quality care to our patients every day. The U.S. News ranking is a testament to the hard work of our colleagues and a relentless focus on quality care,” said Waterbury HEALTH President and CEO Deborah K. Weymouth.
