February is National Heart Month

According to the American Heart Association President Lyndon B Johnson was the first president in 1964 to name February as National Heart Month. It was near and dear to his heart as he had experienced effects from the disease, having had a heart attack himself.

Since then, Presidents continue to declare February Heart Month rightfully so as cardiovascular disease (heart disease) remains the leading cause of death worldwide.

In 2019, there were 523.2 million cases of cardiovascular disease (heart disease) reported, and 18.6 million deaths caused by cardiovascular disease worldwide that same year. According to the Center for Disease Control in 2022 1 in every 5 deaths in the United States was caused by cardiovascular disease.

To keep your heart heathy be sure to go to checkups, and physicals, take any medications your doctor has prescribed, eat high fiber, healthy fatty foods, stop smoking, drink alcohol in moderation if at all and move your body!
